Volunteer with RAD-AID South Pacific

RAD-AID programs in the South Pacific encompass a wide range of goals based on regional Radiology Readiness Assessments, including pediatric imaging, women’s imaging, and ultrasound education.

RAD-AID currently has projects in Rarotonga – Cook Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu.

Rarotonga – Cook Islands

RAD-AID South Pacific has outlined goals with their partner hospital in Rarotonga: 1) Strengthen technologist/sonographer education and skills in ultrasoundCT, and Radiography 2) Strengthen education and skills for clinicians in POCUS, 3) provide continued educational resources to radiographers, and 4) work with the hospital to identify a pathway to strengthen access to mammography.

Tonga

RAD-AID is partnered with Vaiola Hospital, the main hospital in Tonga, located on the outskirts of the capital city, Nuku’Alofa.

In 2025, RAD-AID sent mammography volunteers to work with technologists on-site at Vaiola Hospital to provide training in mammography, breast health education, and QC testing.

Vanuatu

RAD-AID is partnered with Vila Central Hospital, located in The Republic of Vanuatu. In 2022, RAD-AID sent medical student volunteers to administer the Radiology Readiness Assessment as well as the more-specific Tele-Ultrasound Readiness assessment. The trip’s goals also included continuing POCUS education through hands-on teaching and learning. RAD-AID collaborates with WFUMB to bring PEARLS (POCUS for Emergency and Acute care in Resource-Limited Settings) education to the forefront.

In 2024, RAD-AID sent volunteers in collaboration with WFUMB to Vila Central Hospital to perform ultrasound education on-site.
