John Campbell, MD
Director, RAD-AID Malawi
Dr. Campbell completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina and radiology residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently a neuroradiology fellow at UNC. John has traveled to Lilongwe with RAD-AID Malawi on multiple occasions. As director of RAD-AID Malawi, Dr. Campbell seeks to create sustainable strategies for increasing radiology access at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
Val Brod, BS, RDMS, RVT, RMSKS
Program Manager, RAD-AID Malawi
Val received her Ultrasound diploma from the University of Colorado and has worked as a practicing sonographer at a level 1 trauma center in Englewood, Colorado since 2005. She has worked as a clinical instructor for ultrasound and vascular students as well as volunteering her ultrasound skills at a local inner city health clinic. Val was a RAD-AID ASRT Outreach Fellow in Malawi in 2018 and continues to work actively with the Malawi team. She now assists Dr. John Campbell, Director of RAD-AID Malawi, with strategic planning and implementation of Radiology Readiness objectives related to ultrasound education and capacity development for Kamuzu Central Hospital.
Katrina McGinty, MD
Program Manager, RAD-AID Malawi
Dr. McGinty completed medical school at New York Medical College and radiology residency at Northwell in Manhasset, New York followed by an oncolologic imaging fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She pursued an academic career at the University of North Carolina, where Dr. McGinty served as the Director of Global Radiology for 5 years and started the UNC Radiology Residency Global Health Leadership pathway for the UNC Radiology Residency She has been awarded two RSNA grants to support the development of international peer learning conferences and comprehensive MRI curriculum for the radiology residency at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Malawi. She has also initiated and staffs collaborative multidisciplinary conferences between hospitals in the United States and Malawi. Dr. McGinty now works for Mecklenburg Radiology Associates in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she continues to partner with both academic and private radiology practices to offer educational and clinical support to the Malawian radiology residency.
Bart Pierce, BS, RT(R)(MR) FASRT MRSO(MRSC)
Assistant Program Manager, RAD-AID Malawi
Bart Pierce received his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Oregon State University. He is ARRT certified in Radiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He also holds a certification in MRI Safety from the American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety. He has been an adjunct professor at Portland Community College MRI Program in Portland, Oregon and Arkansas State University Jonesboro Medical Imaging Program teaching MRI physics and protocol development. He is now retired and his company Voxel MR Resources specializes in continuing education for MRI technologist and consulting services for MRI safety and clinical applications. Bart has been performing MRI for over 35 years with experience in low, mid and high field systems, as well as multiple vendors and inpatient, outpatient and mobile environments. Most recently he served as the MR Safety Officer at the Corvallis Clinic, Corvallis, OR. He has been active in RAD-AID since 2016 visiting Ethiopia, Guyana and Malawi.
Derek Kuhr, BS, RDMS, RVT, RDCS
Assistant Program Manager, RAD-AID Malawi
Derek completed ultrasound training in 2006 at the University of Colorado. He works as a hospital-based sonographer in Boulder, Colorado. He began working with RAD-AID Tanzania in 2019 and became involved with RAD-AID Malawi in 2021. He now works as the Assistant Program Manager on the Malawi team helping to support Dr. John Campbell and Val Brod to create and implement ultrasound-based initiatives at both Kamuzu Central Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
