John Campbell, MD

Director, RAD-AID Malawi

Dr. Campbell completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina and radiology residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently a neuroradiology fellow at UNC. John has traveled to Lilongwe with RAD-AID Malawi on multiple occasions. As director of RAD-AID Malawi, Dr. Campbell seeks to create sustainable strategies for increasing radiology access at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

Val Brod, BS, RDMS, RVT, RMSKS

Program Manager, RAD-AID Malawi

Val received her Ultrasound diploma from the University of Colorado and has worked as a practicing sonographer at a level 1 trauma center in Englewood, Colorado since 2005. She has worked as a clinical instructor for ultrasound and vascular students as well as volunteering her ultrasound skills at a local inner city health clinic. Val was a RAD-AID ASRT Outreach Fellow in Malawi in 2018 and continues to work actively with the Malawi team. She now assists Dr. John Campbell, Director of RAD-AID Malawi, with strategic planning and implementation of Radiology Readiness objectives related to ultrasound education and capacity development for Kamuzu Central Hospital.

Derek Kuhr, BS, RDMS, RVT, RDCS

AssistantProgram Manager, RAD-AID Malawi

Derek completed ultrasound training in 2006 at the University of Colorado.  He works as a hospital-based sonographer in Boulder, Colorado.  He began working with RAD-AID Tanzania in 2019 and became involved with RAD-AID Malawi in 2021.  He now works as the Assistant Program Manager on the Malawi team helping to support Dr. John Campbell and Val Brod to create and implement ultrasound-based initiatives at both Kamuzu Central Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
