Chapters Program Manager
Bianca Nguyen joined the RAD-AID team in 2012 as the Chapters Program Manager to develop and support RAD-AID's pilot initiative that enables academic institutions to form local RAD-AID chapters for project development and international outreach . Through the efforts of Bianca and Matt Lungren, RAD-AID Director of Education, the RAD-AID Chapters Program continues to grow to universities across the U.S., promoting collaboration between radiology and clinical personnel through webinars and guest speaker presentations. Topics for discussion range from successful global radiology residency rotations, to project planning, sustainability and evaluation.
As a graduate of the B.S. Radiologic Science program at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, Bianca has completed training as a radiologic technologist, with additional experience in Vascular Interventional Radiology. Given the opportunity to pursue a topic of choice for her senior year Research Methods course, she explored the challenges of mammography in developing countries, consequently identifying a life-long commitment to increasing access to diagnostic imaging in resource-limited settings around the world. Understanding the importance of radiologic technologists in the field of global health imaging, she is now working with UNC's Radiologic Science faculty to integrate public health experience and education into the program's curriculum as part of her role at RAD-AID.
During her time at UNC-Chapel Hill, Bianca co-founded and led the UNC chapter of GlobeMed, a national nonprofit that partners university students with community-based organizations to improve the health of the poor. Since 2008, GlobeMed at UNC has raised more than $30,000 for Health-Alert Uganda, a pediatric HIV/AIDS organization that Bianca worked with during an HIV/TB Fellowship in Gulu, Uganda.
After graduating in 2010, Bianca spent two years at the GlobeMed National Office working first as Program Director, and later as Director of Development. In this time, GlobeMed grew from 19 to 50 university-based chapters across the US and to the same number of new partner organizations in Latin America and Asia, as well as doubled fundraising and organizational capacity.
Bianca is currently in the MD/MPH program at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.
